Kumusha Cinsault Rose 75cl
Picture the pale pink in the glass and the smell of fresh strawberries before you even sip. This is the rosé you want when the evening warms up and you don't want to think too hard. It's properly dry, so no sticky sweetness, just bright red berry and a clean finish that makes you go back for more. Order it now, get it cold, sorted.
Light and pale in the glass, the kind of pink that looks expensive. The nose is all fresh red berries, think strawberry and a little crushed raspberry, with a whisper of white flowers behind it. On the palate it's juicy up front, then turns smooth and a touch savoury through the middle, with a slice of watermelon running through. It finishes dry and lively, the acidity keeping everything crisp so it never feels heavy. Easy to love, hard to put down.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This is the wine of Tinashe Nyamudoka, a Zimbabwean who became one of South Africa's most decorated sommeliers, including a stint running the list at the legendary Test Kitchen in Cape Town. 'Kumusha' is Shona for home, your roots, where you're from. He started the label in 2017 with his mate Attie Louw, the winemaker at Opstal in the Breedekloof Valley, working with minimal fuss and natural fermentation. The Cinsault is 100 percent from old-school sandy and clay soils, a few hours of skin contact for that pale colour, then a slow cold ferment and a couple of months on the lees before bottling. Real wine, real story.
