You know that wine you pour when the grill is going and you actually want something with backbone? This is it. KWV Cabernet Sauvignon is deep, dark and full-bodied, all blackcurrant and a little dark chocolate, with proper grippy tannins that stand up to red meat. It's a serious South African red that doesn't take itself too seriously. Crack it, let it breathe, and let the night go long.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Pour it and you get deep ruby in the glass and a nose of blackcurrant and cassis with a whisper of dark chocolate. First sip is concentrated and ripe: think blackberry, plum and a little cedar from the oak. The tannins (that drying, gum-hugging grip) are firm but well-behaved, giving it real structure, and it finishes dry and savoury with a touch of spice. Full-bodied without being heavy-handed. It wants food.

Where it's from

KWV is a South African institution. It started back in 1918 as a co-op of Cape wine farmers banding together, and today its cellar complex in Paarl is one of the biggest in the world. Paarl sits in the warm heart of the Western Cape wine country, which is exactly the kind of sunshine Cabernet Sauvignon loves, ripening into that bold, dark-fruited style. Long pedigree, no fuss.
