Louis Eschenauer Medoc 2020 75cl
Proper left-bank Bordeaux without the proper-Bordeaux price tag. This is the bottle for a slow evening and a serious plate of meat. Cabernet-led, dark and structured, with those firm Médoc tannins that grip your nyama choma and refuse to let go. Open it, give it a few minutes, and it rewards you all night.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Pour it and you get a deep, near-purple red. The nose is all ripe dark fruit: blackcurrant, plum, a little crushed berry, then a wisp of cedar and vanilla from the oak. On the palate it's full and confident. Real structure, firm tannins (that drying, gum-hugging grip on the sides of your mouth) and a long finish with a touch of liquorice. Dry through and through, not a hint of sweetness. Built to stand up to food rather than sip on its own.

Where it's from

The Médoc is the strip of land on the left bank of the Gironde, north of Bordeaux city, and it's classic Cabernet Sauvignon country. The name on the label belongs to Louis Eschenauer, who left Alsace for Bordeaux back in 1821 and built one of the region's best-known wine houses. Over the years they've bottled wine from some seriously famous Médoc and Graves châteaux, so they know this corner of France inside out. This is their straight-up Médoc red: that left-bank pedigree, made approachable.
