Pop the pack and you know exactly what you're in for. Light, crisp, savoury crackers with a clean salty snap and zero sweetness getting in the way. The kind of thing you grab for a quick crunch with your tea, then look down and the row's half gone. No added sugar, no fuss, no sugar-coated guilt. Just a proper Kenyan classic that does the job, any hour you fancy.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Bite in and it's all crunch. A clean, dry snap that shatters rather than crumbles. The flavour is gently savoury: toasty baked wheat, a soft buttery warmth underneath, and a measured hit of salt right across the top. There's no sweetness pulling focus, so it reads more like a cracker than a biscuit. Light on the tongue and a little moreish, which is exactly the problem with the 200g pack.

Where it's from

This is properly Kenyan heritage. The House of Manji name goes back to Madatally Manji, an Indian-Kenyan who hawked at Karatina market before buying a Nairobi bakery in the 1940s, then set up Kenya's first real biscuit factory in the city's Industrial Area in 1953. He was the first person to make biscuits in Kenya, full stop. Decades on, the brand (now under Manji Food Industries) is still a household staple, and the Salty Snack sits in their sugar-free range, baked light for anyone watching the sweet stuff.

Good to know

What is the price of Manji Salty Biscuits Sugar Free 200g?

Manji Salty Biscuits Sugar Free 200g is KSh 100 at Oaks & Corks. Order online for delivery in 30 minutes for most areas in Nairobi, or next day countrywide.

What does Manji Salty Biscuits (Sugar Free) 200g taste like?

Light, crisp savoury crackers with a clean salty snap, a toasty baked-wheat flavour and a subtle buttery warmth. No sweetness at all, so they're more cracker than biscuit.

Do they really have no sugar?

They're made with no added sugar, which is why they sit in Manji's sugar-free range alongside their other lighter, savoury snacks. Always glance at the pack label if you're tracking it closely.

What is the ABV?

None. This is a snack, not a drink, so there's no alcohol in it. We just happen to deliver it alongside everything else for your night in.

How do I serve them?

Straight from the pack with tea or coffee, topped with cheese or avocado, or as a scoop for dips. Keep the pack sealed in a cool, dry spot so they stay crunchy.

Do they contain gluten?

Yes. They're made from wheat flour, so they contain wheat and gluten and aren't suitable if you're avoiding either.

Where are they from?

Kenya. They come from House of Manji, the Nairobi brand that made the country's very first biscuits back in the 1950s.
