Montmeyrac Grand Selection Red 75cl
Worth a pour
Pour a glass and you get ripe dark fruit, a whisper of cedar, and tannins so smooth they basically wave you in. This is the French red you grab when the grill is on and you don't want to overthink it. Dry, savoury, easy company. It plays nice with a plate of nyama choma and even nicer with good people. Say the word and we'll have it at your door tonight.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First sniff is dark berries: plum, blackberry, a little ripe cassis, with a gentle waft of cedar and vanilla from time on oak. The sip is rounded and velvety, more black-fruit than sharp, with a quiet savoury edge underneath. Tannins (the grippy bit that dries your tongue) are soft here, so it goes down smooth rather than chewy. It finishes dry and clean, nothing sticky, nothing heavy. Friendly enough for a weeknight, smart enough to take seriously.

Where it's from

Montmeyrac comes from Grands Chais de France, the family wine house Joseph Helfrich started back in 1979. They've grown into one of France's biggest exporters, with vineyards dotted across the country's classic regions. This Grande Selection Red is a Vin de France blend leaning on the South West, the patchwork of vineyards just below Bordeaux. The idea is simple: proper French red, made to drink now, priced so you can open it on a Tuesday.
