Tall Horse Chardonnay 75cl
Worth a pour★★★
Pour this cold and the first thing you get is sunshine in a glass. Ripe tropical fruit, a squeeze of citrus, then a soft creamy roundness that stops it being sharp. It's dry but generous, the kind of white that's easy to love and hard to overthink. Grilled fish on the table, a slow Friday, people you like. Sorted.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Stick your nose in and it's all pineapple, mango and a flash of lemon, with a quiet vanilla warmth sitting underneath. On the palate it's rounded and a little creamy (that's the lees and the light oak doing their thing), then a fresh citrus snap closes it out so it never feels heavy. Medium-bodied, properly dry, balanced enough to drink on its own or carry a plate of food. Friendly, not fussy.

Where it's from

Tall Horse is South African, blended in the cellars of Wellington in the Western Cape by winemaker Jaco Potgieter, who hunts down grapes across the Cape's best patches, warm slopes and cool ocean-breeze pockets alike. The fun bit is the name. When giraffes first reached Paris from Africa in the 1820s, people had never seen anything like them and started calling them tall horses. The brand ran with it, giraffe on the label and all. A fruity little safari in a bottle, basically.
