Picture a Friday that needs zero effort. Pour this and you get a glass of ripe blackberry and plum with a little pepper buzz on the end, soft enough to drink on its own and bold enough to stand up to a plate of nyama choma. It's a South African Shiraz that doesn't make you work for it. Generous, smooth, a bit cheeky. Tap order, we bring it, you're sorted at any hour.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Deep ruby in the glass. Stick your nose in and it's all ripe blackberry and dark plum, with a quiet hint of spice sitting behind the fruit. First sip is smooth and rounded, dark fruit up front, then a gentle twist of black pepper that keeps it interesting. Tannins (the grippy bit that dries your gums) are soft here, so it glides rather than grips, and it signs off easy and mellow. Dry, but so fruit-loaded it can read almost juicy.

Where it's from

This comes from Douglas Green, one of South Africa's long-running Western Cape names, under their breezy Beach House label. The whole range is built around that relaxed coastal, sun-going-down mood, hence the Sunset name. The grapes are Shiraz (same grape the French call Syrah) grown across the Western Cape, where the warm days pile on that ripe dark-fruit character you taste in the glass. Everyday wine done properly, no fuss, no airs.
