Van Loveren Cabernet Sauvignon 75cl
Exceptional★★★★★
Pour this and you get a big, warm hug of a red. Ripe blackcurrant and plum up front, smooth tannins that don't fight you, and a little cedar to keep it grown-up. It's the bottle you open on a Friday when the grill's going and nobody wants to overthink the wine. Dry, generous, easy to love. We'll have it at your door fast, any hour.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Stick your nose in and it's all dark fruit. Cassis (that's blackcurrant), juicy plum, a hint of blackberry, with a savoury edge of cedar and a touch of oak sitting behind it. On the palate it's full and round, the tannins (the grippy bit that dries your gums on a young red) are soft and polished here, so it goes down smooth. Finishes dry and a little spicy, nothing harsh.

Where it's from

This comes from Van Loveren, a family farm in South Africa's Robertson Valley that the Retief family has run since 1937. Fun bit: it's named after Christina van Loveren, an ancestor who sailed to the Cape back in 1699, after the founder's wife talked him into ditching the old farm name. They didn't bottle under their own label until 1980, and today they're one of South Africa's biggest family-owned wineries. Warm Robertson days and cool river nights are exactly why their Cab gets so ripe and round.

Full and smooth, packed with ripe blackcurrant and plum, with cedar and a touch of oak in the background. It's dry, with soft, polished tannins and a gently spicy finish.

What is the ABV of Van Loveren Cabernet Sauvignon?
