Picture a glass of pure ripe red fruit with a little kick of black pepper at the back. That's this one. Western Cellars Zinfandel is generous and friendly, the kind of red that goes down easy whether you're deep in a Friday catch-up or staring at a grill. It's dry, it's fruit-forward, and it doesn't ask you to think too hard. Pour it, sip it, done.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

The nose is bright and a bit spicy, raspberry and blackberry up front with a light woody touch behind it. Take a sip and you get a wave of dark and red fruit, raspberry, blackberry, a hint of dried date, with that signature Zinfandel pepper running through it. The tannins (the grippy, dry-your-mouth bit) are soft and easygoing, so it feels round and approachable rather than heavy. Finishes smooth with a faint coffee edge. Dry, but the fruit is so ripe it almost tricks you into thinking it's sweeter than it is.

Where it's from

Zinfandel is basically California's home-team grape, and this one comes from the warm Lodi region of Northern California, away from the Napa spotlight but right in Zin's sweet spot. The brand sits under Les Grands Chais de France, one of the biggest names in the wine-export world, so the fruit is grown and made Californian-style then bottled to a consistent standard. Translation: proper New World Zinfandel without the collector price tag.
