Tommasi Valpolicella Classico 750ml
You want a red that's easy to love but not boring, this is your bottle. Tommasi Valpolicella is all bright, juicy cherry and red berries, light enough to drink without thinking and elegant enough that you'll notice. Dry, fresh, smooth on the way out. Pour it slightly cool with a pizza or a plate of nyama choma tonight and thank yourself later.
Pop the cork and you get a fragrant hit of ripe cherry and red fruit, with a faint almond note hiding underneath. The wine itself is a clear, glowing ruby. It drinks light and supple, fruit up front, fresh and balanced through the middle, with soft tannins that never grip your cheeks. The finish is clean and gently lingering. Basically: bright, fruity, dry, and very easy to keep sipping.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This comes from Valpolicella Classico, the original hilly heartland of the region just north of Verona in Italy's Veneto. The Tommasi family has been making wine there since 1902, when Giacomo Tommasi bought a small plot of land. Four generations on, they're the biggest single landowner in the Classico zone and a serious name in Veronese reds. The blend is classic Valpolicella: mostly Corvina for the cherry, Rondinella for backbone, and a splash of the old-school Molinara grape for a little fresh-herb lift. Fermented and aged in steel so the fruit stays bright.
