You know that first cold sip that makes you go ah, yes, that's the one ? This is it. Zonnebloem Blanc de Blanc is a South African dry white that leads with citrus and green apple, then hands you a little burst of tropical guava on the way out. Bright, clean, zero fuss. Pour it the second the sun dips, whether it's grilled prawns, a Friday with friends, or just you and a salty snack on the balcony.
Get your nose in first: green apple and lemon-lime, with a wink of guava and ripe melon behind it. The Sauvignon Blanc brings the zip, the Chenin Blanc rounds it off so it never feels sharp. On the palate it's light-bodied and dry, properly mouthwatering, with that tropical fruit lingering before a clean finish that leaves you reaching for the next sip. Easy to love, not a single rough edge.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Zonnebloem means sunflower in Dutch, and the name's been on Cape wine since 1856. Here's the cool bit: when the Furter family took over in 1940, Marie Furter ran the cellar and became South Africa's first female winemaker. The grapes for this blend come from Stellenbosch, Darling and Malmesbury, cool-fermented at around 13°C with no skin contact, then left two weeks on the lees to build a little extra depth. Today it sits in the Heineken Beverages stable, but the style has stayed true: honest, bright, South African white.
