Asconi Grapefruit Ruby Red 75cl
Picture a sweet, deep-red wine that someone handed a glow-up with ruby grapefruit. That's this. Juicy ripe berries up front, then a tangy citrus snap that stops it ever getting cloying. Pour it cold on a slow Friday, line up some nyama choma or just a film and the couch, and it does the rest. It's an easy yes for the crew that finds dry reds a bit too serious.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Smells like a bowl of ripe red fruit with someone peeling a pink grapefruit next to it. The first sip is properly sweet, all jammy strawberry and red-berry richness, and then the ruby grapefruit cuts straight through with a bright, tangy zing that keeps the whole thing lively instead of sticky. It's smooth and round in the mouth, no harsh grip, and that citrus tail lingers on the finish. At 16% it carries a bit more warmth than your average glass, so it sips slow and satisfying.

Where it's from

This comes from Asconi, a family winery in Moldova, the little Eastern European country that quietly makes a lot of seriously good wine. They've been at it since 1994, farming vineyards near Geamana village in the Codru hills and running one of the most modern setups in the country, even harvesting at night. Moldova got squeezed when Russia slapped an embargo on its wine back in 2006, so wineries like Asconi went hunting for new fans worldwide, and Kenya is now firmly on that map. This grapefruit-infused red is their playful, modern side, less old-world stuffiness, more fun in a glass.
