Asconi

Sweet, easy and a proper crowd-pleaser, that's the Asconi house style. This Moldovan family winery does generous reds, floral whites, pretty rosés and fruit wines that taste like pudding in the best way. Nothing stuffy, nothing you need a degree to enjoy. New to wine? Their reds are a soft landing.

If you've ever found wine too dry, too serious, too much like homework, Asconi is your people. This Moldovan house leans sweet and friendly. These are bottles you open for the table, not for a tasting panel.

Start with the reds. The Asconi Cabernet Sauv Merlot Red Sweet is the easy yes at KSh1439: ripe, jammy and a little plush, the kind of red that makes a plate of nyama choma look like a genius idea. Want it dialled back? Asconi Red Semidry (KSh1599) keeps the fruit but lets the wine stretch its legs. And Asconi Pastoral at KSh1912 is the comfort blanket of the range: soft, round and very hard to dislike. Want more reds to browse? Start with our red wine shelf.

Sweet tooth and rosé crowd, this way

Asconi Moscato Rose (KSh1769) is the bottle that quietly vanishes at brunch: blush-pink, light and fun, and the pick of our rosé shelf. Like your white wine perfumed? Asconi Muscat White Sweet at KSh1439 is grapey, floral and dangerously sippable. Prefer dry? Sol Negru Sauvignon Blanc (KSh1599) is Asconi's sharp side, zippy, grassy and properly dry for when sweet isn't the mood.

Then there's the fun corner. Asconi Peach and Asconi Tropical Passion (both KSh1929) are fruit wines that taste like the holiday you keep meaning to book. Get them cold, pour over ice if you like, no rules here.

The grown-up sippers

Want to end a night properly? Kagor Lux (KSh1789) is a deep, dark, sweet red, all dried fruit and cocoa. And Asconi Ice Wine White at KSh2869 is the splurge: lush and honeyed, pressed from frozen grapes, a small glass that makes you feel fancy for sipping it slowly.

Quick aside for the curious. Asconi is a family winery out in Moldova, mixing old traditions with newer kit. You don't need any of that to enjoy the pour, but it's why the bottles come out so reliably good.

Wherever you are in Nairobi, we'll have one at your door fast, any hour of the day or night.
