Pour this cold and the first sip wakes you right up. Zingy grapefruit, a squeeze of lime, a little white-flower lift, then it lands soft and round instead of sharp. It's a proper dry white Bordeaux that goes down way too easy on a warm Nairobi evening or the second your grilled fish hits the table. Crowd-pleaser, food-friendly, no fuss.
Stick your nose in and you get citrus first: pink grapefruit and a flash of lime, with a soft floral whiff of acacia blossom behind it. There's a hint of riper tropical fruit too, think mango skin, plus a faint toasty edge. On the palate it's bone dry but never austere. The Sauvignon Blanc brings the zip and tang, while the Sémillon (with a touch of Muscadelle) fleshes it out so it feels rounded and almost silky. Fresh finish, properly balanced, leaves you wanting the next sip.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This comes from Château Argadens, a single 45-hectare plot sitting on one of the highest hills in Entre-Deux-Mers, the green slice of Bordeaux between two rivers. The soil is clay over limestone, which is exactly the kind of ground that keeps a white wine fresh and lively. The estate goes back to a noble family in the 13th century, but the modern story is the Sichels, a Bordeaux wine family running since 1883, who bought it in 2002 and gave it the name back. Same family behind the famous Château Palmer, so they know what they're doing.
