Dewar's 18 Years 75cl
Pour this when the day's done and you want to slow it right down. Dewar's 18 is a sipper, plush and unhurried, all honey and toffee with a long, velvety finish that just keeps going. Think nightcap on the balcony, or the bottle you bring out when someone you actually like is over. No mixer required. Just a glass, a splash of water if you fancy, and zero rush.
It opens sweet and inviting: honey, soft toffee and a nutty, almost marzipan thing going on. Then the fruit rolls in, ripe apples and pears like a Limuru orchard, with a little dried fruit and warm spice tucked behind. Eighteen years and a second rest in oak give it that creamy, full-bodied feel, smooth right through to a finish that's long, mellow and gentle. Complex, but it never gets loud about it.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Dewar's has been blending in Scotland since John Dewar set up shop in 1846. The clever bit came later: their master blender A.J. Cameron pioneered "double ageing", and Dewar's were among the first to do it. So this whisky is aged, then blended, then sent back into oak vats for a second long rest to let all the flavours marry into one smooth voice. The malt heart comes from Aberfeldy distillery up in the Highlands. That extra patience is exactly why the 18 feels so seamless.
