Pequena Sauv Blanc Sem 75cl
Pour this cold and it basically wakes up the table. Pink grapefruit, fresh peach, a little squeeze of lemon, and a whiff of jasmine on top. It's dry, it's zippy, and it doesn't ask you to think too hard. Friday after work, fish off the grill, or just a Tuesday that needs rescuing. Say the word and it's at your door, ice-bucket cold ideas optional.
The nose leads with peach, pink grapefruit and citrus, with a soft floral lift (think jasmine) and a faint stony, mineral edge. First sip is bright and lively. Grapefruit and lemon up front, then a green, herby twist (the Sauvignon Blanc showing off) before the Semillón rounds it out and keeps it smooth. Bone dry, juicy acidity, clean finish. Nothing sweet, nothing heavy. Just fresh and moreish.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This comes from Bodega La Rural in Maipú, Mendoza, the engine room of Argentine wine. La Rural goes back to 1885 and is one of the oldest continuously running wineries in Mendoza, founded by Felipe Rutini (yes, that Rutini). They even keep a wine museum on site, packed with old winemaking gear. The Sauvignon Blanc and Semillón are grown across Mendoza's high-altitude vineyards, which is part of why this tastes so fresh and bright.
