Purebred Malbec 75cl
Excellent★★★★
You want a red that just delivers, no homework required. This is the one. Half Shiraz for the backbone and a little spice, half Merlot for the plush, plummy fruit, and barely a whisper of oak so the blackcurrant comes through loud and clear. Pour it next to a plate of nyama choma on a slow night and watch it disappear.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First sniff and you get blackcurrant, ripe plum and dark cherry, with a little pepper and spice hiding behind the fruit. On the palate it's generous and round. The Merlot keeps everything soft and juicy, the Shiraz gives it shape and a bit of grip so it doesn't go flat. It's dry, not sweet, but the fruit is so ripe it can fool you for a second. Smooth finish, nothing harsh, nothing to overthink.

Where it's from

This comes off Excelsior Estate in the Robertson Valley, where the De Wet family has farmed since 1859. Here's the fun part: long before they were known for wine, they bred champion thoroughbred racehorses, and the estate is still tied to that equine legacy today. That's where the "Purebred" name comes from. A nod to the stud farm that put the place on the map.
