San Felipe Oak Sauvignon Blanc 75cl. 2022
Pour this cold and you get the best of two worlds. There's the zippy citrus-and-white-flower lift you want from a Sauvignon Blanc, but it doesn't slap you. A small splash of the juice spent three months in new French oak, so the sharp edges go soft and round instead. Translation: a white that's bright and easy to love, with a creamy bit of weight underneath. Perfect for a warm Nairobi evening when you want something white but not thin.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First sniff is all grapefruit and white flowers, with a little stone-fruit thing going on, think apricot and peach skin. On the tongue it's dry and juicy at the same time, citrus up front, then that oak softens the acidity so it feels rounder and fuller than most Sauvignon Blancs. It's the wine for someone who finds most Sauv Blanc a touch too sharp. Pure fruit, real character, finishes clean.

Where it's from

This comes from Rutini Wines in Mendoza, Argentina, one of the country's most respected names. The winery goes back to an Italian immigrant, Felipe Rutini, who planted vines in the foothills of the Andes back in the 1880s. The grapes for this one grow high up on those mountain foothills, where cool air and big day-to-night temperature swings keep the fruit fresh and full of flavour. San Felipe is their classic, everyday line, and it punches well above its weight.
