Sheridan's 1L
★★★★½ 4.5 (2 reviews)Pour this and watch it do a little magic trick in the glass. Dark coffee-and-whiskey liqueur sinks to the bottom, a milk-chocolate cream floats on top, and you get a tiny Irish coffee that you didn't have to brew. It's sweet, it's smooth, it tastes like the best part of dessert. The drink for after the nyama choma is cleared and nobody's quite ready for the night to end.
First hit is roasted coffee and dark chocolate off the black side, deep and a touch bitter so it never turns sickly. Then the cream side rolls in: vanilla, caramel, that soft milk-chocolate weight that coats your mouth. There's a quiet warmth of Irish whiskey threaded through the coffee, more cosy than boozy at 15.5%. Sip the two together and it drinks like a cold, creamy mocha with a grown-up edge.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Sheridan's is made in Dublin by Thomas Sheridan & Sons and landed in 1994, dreamed up as a bottled tribute to the Irish coffee. Fun bit: that classic drink was invented by a different Sheridan, barman Joe Sheridan, who in the 1940s spiked coffee with whiskey and cream to warm up freezing flying-boat passengers in the west of Ireland. The fused twin bottle was such an odd shape that no Irish glassmaker could produce it at first, so the early bottles were blown in Italy. Patented design, properly one of a kind.

Sweet and creamy with roasted coffee and dark chocolate on one side and vanilla, caramel and milk chocolate cream on the other, plus a soft whiskey warmth. Think a cold, grown-up mocha.

Ireland. It's produced in Dublin by Thomas Sheridan & Sons and was first released in 1994.
