This comes from Vedrenne, a house set up just after the First World War in Nuits-Saint-Georges, smack in the heart of Burgundy and right next to the blackcurrant fields. Supercassis is their flagship, made the proper Burgundian way: berries (mostly the prized Noir de Bourgogne variety) macerated in alcohol in sealed stainless-steel vats, away from air and light to protect the colour and aroma, then sweetened with nothing but sugar. No additives, no shortcuts. That's why it tastes so vividly of the real fruit.
