Nose first: vanilla and soft caramel, a bit of buttery shortbread, maybe a whiff of aged fruit over gentle oak. The first sip is lightly sweet, think honey and toffee with that vanilla carrying through. Then it shifts. Toasted nuts, a touch of oak, and a clean burst of rye spice rolls in on the finish to stop it ever feeling sugary. Light-bodied and properly smooth, but with enough going on that you'll keep sipping.

Master Distiller Harlen Wheatley and Grammy-winning singer Chris Stapleton tasted through dozens of blends before locking in the winner, fittingly called Blend No. 40. The name comes from Stapleton's breakout album 'Traveller'. It's a blended American whiskey with zero grain neutral spirits in it, which is partly why it drinks so much richer than its easy price suggests.
