This comes out of the Franschhoek Valley in South Africa's Western Cape, one of the prettiest wine corners on the planet, all dramatic mountains and old vines. Franschhoek Cellar started back in 1945 as a co-op, a bunch of local grape farmers pooling their fruit to make wine together. These days it's a proper private winery under the DGB stable, but the valley roots run deep. This bottle belongs to their Village Walk range, named after Franschhoek landmarks. The Sauvignon Blanc's full name is 'Statue de Femme', after the monument in the village.
