Think a glass of crushed strawberries and ripe nectarine, sweet and soft, with barely any alcohol to slow you down. At 7% this Moldovan rosé is the bottle you open when you want something fun and fruity that won't knock you sideways on a school night. Pink, juicy, easy company. Pull it cold from the fridge, pour, and you're sorted. Late night craving? We'll have it at your door fast.
Nose first: it's all ripe raspberry and strawberry with a little floral lift, the classic grapey Moscato perfume. Then the sip lands sweet and round, like red berries and a squeeze of nectarine, with just enough freshness underneath to stop it feeling sticky. It's light, soft and unapologetically sweet (around 100g of sugar per litre), so treat it as a treat, not a dry sipper. Easy to love, even easier to finish.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
This comes from Asconi, a family-run winery in the village of Puhoi, about 25km south of Chișinău in Moldova. They started up in 1994 and have since planted over 500 hectares of vines, turning out a few million bottles a year. Moldova flies under the radar but it's one of the oldest wine countries on the planet, and the Moscato grape here gives that signature grapey, floral pop. The juice is fermented cool and stopped early, which is the trick that leaves all that natural grape sugar in the bottle.
