Picture your usual smooth Speyside malt, then someone hands it a rum cocktail and tells it to relax. That's this. The Glenlivet took their classic single malt and finished it in barrels that used to hold Caribbean rum, so you get the polished, honeyed Glenlivet thing plus a wink of banana, toffee and tropical fruit. Soft, easy, a little sunny. The bottle you pour when you want whisky but you're in a good mood.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First sniff is gentle and fruity: ripe pear, red apple, then that giveaway note of banana in syrup, like a banoffee pie that wandered into the room. Take a sip and it goes rich and dessert-y. Caramel toffee up front, a squeeze of mandarin orange, soft vanilla and a cool slice of honeydew melon. At 40% it's mellow, not a chest-warmer, so nothing bites. The finish is short, citrusy and clean, which is exactly why a second pour appears so fast.

Where it's from

The Glenlivet sits in its own glen up in Speyside, Scotland, the most whisky-dense corner of the country and one of the most famous names in single malt. For this one they aged the spirit the usual way, then handed a portion of it over to ex-Caribbean rum barrels, sourced out of Jamaica, for a finishing stint. Only part of the batch sees those casks, which is the trick: the rum adds the tropical glow without stealing the smooth Glenlivet character underneath.

Soft and sweet. Pear, red apple and banana on the nose, then caramel toffee, mandarin orange, vanilla and melon to sip. No smoke, a short citrusy finish. Basically a sunny, dessert-leaning single malt.

What is the ABV of The Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve?

40% ABV, in a 700ml bottle. Mellow enough to enjoy neat without it biting.

A portion of the whisky is finished in barrels that previously held Caribbean rum, sourced from Jamaica. That rum-cask stint is where the banana and tropical-fruit sweetness comes from.

Where is it made?

At The Glenlivet distillery in Speyside, Scotland, one of the world's great single malt regions.

Yep. It's smooth, sweet and smoke-free, which makes it an easy, friendly intro to single malt and a crowd-pleaser at a party.
