You know the move. Bottle straight out the freezer, syrupy and ice-cold, poured into a tiny glass and thrown back with the crew. That's Jäger. It's dark, herby and bittersweet, with a hit of citrus and spice that warms you on the way down. Whether it's a Jägerbomb at the bar or a sneaky shot before the dancefloor calls, this is the bottle that turns a quiet night loud. We'll get it to you cold and fast.
First sniff and it hits you with a wall of herbs, citrus peel and something almost minty and medicinal in the best way. Sip it ice-cold and it's thick, sweet and bitter at the same time, with liquorice and aniseed up front, warm spice like cinnamon and clove underneath, and a long herbal finish that lingers. It's complex without being a chore. Sweet enough to go down easy, bitter enough to feel grown-up.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it comes from
Jäger is German through and through, born in the town of Wolfenbüttel. A keen hunter named Curt Mast spent years perfecting the recipe and launched it in 1935. The name means master of the hunt, which is why that stag's head with the glowing cross sits on every green bottle, a nod to the patron saint of hunters. The recipe of 56 herbs, roots, fruits and spices hasn't changed since. Everything gets macerated in water and alcohol, then rested in oak barrels for about a year before it's blended and bottled. Nearly a century on, that secret blend is still locked down tight.
