Glenlivet 15 Year Old 700ml-15%
Superb★★★★½
Pour this when you want a whisky that feels like a hug, not a wrestling match. The Glenlivet 15 spends part of its life in French Limousin oak, the same wood they use for Cognac, and you can taste it. Think soft peaches and cream up front, a warm wave of cinnamon and clove, then a dry peppery kick that keeps it grown-up. It's the dram for slowing down after a long Friday, glass in hand, no rush anywhere.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

Golden in the glass and seriously inviting on the nose: orchard fruit (pear, apple, a little pineapple), almonds, vanilla and a soft floral sweetness, like fudge and apple crumble fresh out the oven. The sip is full and rich. Peaches-and-cream smoothness leads, then the spice rolls in (cinnamon, clove) with that thick, almost Chardonnay-like oak from the French casks. It finishes long and dry with a clean peppery snap, so it never tips into sticky-sweet. Easy to love, with enough going on to keep you curious.

Where it's from

The Glenlivet sits in Speyside, the lush whisky heartland of northern Scotland, and it's a bit of a legend: George Smith made it the first licensed distillery in the Glenlivet glen back in 1824, when most of the neighbours were still distilling on the sly. What makes this 15 special is the wood. Alongside traditional oak, it's matured in new French Limousin oak from the Dordogne, the low-density wood Cognac houses prize. The spirit soaks deep into those soft casks and pulls out all that spice and creamy richness. Clever trick, delicious result.

What food pairs with Glenlivet 15?

Dark chocolate, roasted nuts, aged cheddar, cinnamon-spiced desserts, or even smoky nyama choma. The spice and oak hold up nicely to richer flavours.

Why is it called the French Oak Reserve?

Because part of its maturation happens in new French Limousin oak casks, the same wood used for Cognac. That's where the creamy spice and rich oak character come from.

No. It's a Speyside single malt with no peat smoke. Expect fruit, spice and oak rather than the campfire style of an Islay malt.
