J&B comes from Justerini & Brooks, a London wine-and-spirits house with roots going back to 1749 (started by an Italian who chased an opera singer to London, true story). The whisky itself is the newer chapter: around 1932 the team built a deliberately light blend aimed at American drinkers coming out of Prohibition, leaning hard on bright, fruity Speyside malts like Knockando, Strathmill, Glen Spey and Auchroisk. Roughly 42 malt and grain whiskies go into every bottle. That recipe made it one of the best-selling Scotches on the planet, and it's still blended in Scotland today.
