This one's pure New Orleans. Back in 1874 a bartender named Martin Wilkes Heron got tired of harsh, barrel-to-barrel whiskey that tasted different every pour, so he started dosing it with fruit and spice to smooth it out. That blend, vanilla, lemon, cinnamon, cloves, cherries, orange and honey by legend, became Southern Comfort. The exact recipe is still a secret, and a 2017 reformulation put real whiskey back at its heart.
