Glenfiddich is made in Dufftown, in Scotland's Speyside, the busiest corner of the whisky world. The clever bit here is the Solera Vat, a big oak tun the distillery's late Malt Master David Stewart filled back in 1998 and has never let run dry since. Three styles of 15-year-old whisky (ex-bourbon, sherry cask and a splash finished in virgin oak) marry together in there, and it's only ever drawn down halfway before being topped back up. That's why every bottle tastes so consistent, with a little of the original 1998 spirit still in the mix.
