Glenfiddich 25YO 750ml
This is the bottle you bring out when the night actually matters. Twenty-five years sleeping in oak turns it into something silky and slow: a sip lands soft, spreads into rich vanilla and dried fruit, then warms you all the way down with a flicker of spice. No rush, no burn, just depth. Pour it neat, sink into a chair, and let it take its time. So should you.
First it smells sweet and woody, ripe red apple and pear with that classic Glenfiddich orchard-fruit lift, plus dried fruit and a whisper of candied citrus. The sip is where it shows off: creamy and velvety, rounded vanilla, caramelised demerara sugar, toasted almonds and a gentle nudge of cardamom. Then the long finish rolls in, warming and dry with cinnamon, nutmeg and clove and the faintest curl of smoke. Elegant, never harsh. It practically melts.
The details
Pairs well with
Where it's from
Glenfiddich is made in Dufftown, in Speyside, the green heart of Scotch country, and it's still run by the Grant family who started it back in the 1880s. The name means "valley of the deer," which is why the stag is on the bottle. This Rare Oak is one of their prestige releases, single malt aged at least 25 years and married together from specially picked oak casks, European sherry butts and American ex-bourbon barrels doing the slow work. A genuine collector's malt.
