You know that drink. The sunset-orange one in the big balloon glass that makes a Friday feel like a holiday. That's this. Aperol is bittersweet, light, and so easy on its feet at 11% that you can pour one before the nyama choma even hits the grill and still be sharp by the second round. Crack the Prosecco, top with soda, and you've basically thrown a party in a glass.
Tasting note · by The Oaks Cellar

First thing you get is orange. Loads of it, sweet and zesty like fresh peel, with a grown-up bitter edge underneath that stops it ever feeling like squash. Behind the citrus there's a gentle herbal, almost rhubarb-y twang and a whisper of bitterness from gentian and cinchona that makes your mouth water for the next sip. It's bright, it's juicy, and that little bitter tug is exactly the point. Sweet up front, clever on the finish.

Where it's from

Aperol is properly Italian, born in Padua back in 1919 when two brothers, Luigi and Silvio Barbieri, finally nailed a recipe they'd been tinkering with for years. That secret blend of around 16 herbs, roots and orange still hasn't changed. It stayed a quietly Italian thing for decades before the Spritz turned it into the orange icon you see everywhere now. These days Campari Group makes it, but the glow is all Padua.

Quick questions

What is the price of Aperol Aperitivo 700ml?

Aperol Aperitivo 700ml is KSh 2,809 at Oaks & Corks. Order online for delivery in 30 minutes for most areas in Nairobi, or next day countrywide.

What does Aperol Aperitivo 700ml taste like?

Bittersweet and bursting with orange. Sweet, zesty citrus up front, then a soft herbal and rhubarb-like bitterness underneath from gentian and cinchona that keeps it refreshing rather than sugary.

What is the ABV of Aperol?

It's 11%, which is light for a spirit. That's a big part of why the Spritz is so sippable across a long evening.

How do I serve Aperol?

Make an Aperol Spritz. Fill a big glass with ice, then 3 parts chilled Prosecco, 2 parts Aperol, a splash of soda, and an orange slice. Or keep it simple with Aperol and soda over ice.

What food pairs with Aperol?

Anything salty and snacky. Olives, crisps, cured meats, cheese, bruschetta, grilled prawns or a Margherita pizza all play beautifully against the bitter-orange kick.

Where is Aperol from?

Italy. It was created in Padua in 1919 by the Barbieri brothers and is now made by Campari Group.

Is Aperol the same as Campari?

No. They're cousins, but Aperol is lighter, sweeter and much lower in alcohol at 11%, while Campari is darker, more bitter and far stronger. Aperol is the easygoing one.
