This comes from Leleshwa, Kenya's pioneering estate winery at Morendat Farm near Naivasha, down on the floor of the Great Rift Valley around 1,800 metres up. The family behind it (the Ngugis of Kenya Nut) were told grapes simply wouldn't grow here, planted a vineyard anyway, and two decades on they're bottling proper Kenyan drinks. The vodka is made in small batches from local ingredients and that clean Rift Valley water, which is exactly where the smooth, faintly fruity character comes from. Properly local, properly good.
