Meukow is a real Cognac-region house with a properly odd backstory. Two brothers, Auguste-Christophe and Gustav Meukow, came from Silesia and were first sent to France to source eaux-de-vie for the Russian Tsar's court. They liked it enough to set up their own house in the town of Cognac back in 1862. The famous gold panther only arrived on the bottle in 1993, chosen because it captures the feline, prowling style of the cognac. This XO is a blend built mainly from prized Grande and Petite Champagne eaux-de-vie, rounded out with Fins Bois and Bons Bois, aged at least ten years in French oak.
